  • Levels 10-14

After hitting level 9 I went back to Grobb to grab my new spells and then made the trip up to East Commons. I was able to get someone to bind me inside WFP and set back out to exp.

These levels went by pretty quickly as I was doing a bit of double duty. I hunted mostly scarabs, lionesses to start and then on to young kodiacs and lions as I gained some levels.

At the same time, I started swapping some of the WIS gear I had brought over from my druid for AC/HP gear. Thankfully I was able to find some helpful posts on the p99 forums around Shaman gearing.

I knew shamans needed to take more of a beating than some of the other casters but I still assumed they were primarily concerned with WIS. More WIS, more mana, more dots, etc.

After a bit of reading I got myself straightened out and set out to get rid of a lot of the low AC WIS gear I had on the druid and get some beefier items.

I ended up trading my WIS rings for AC/HP ones. I also picked up a few different pieces of Jaundiced gear (arms, gaunts, helm). These were cheap and have high AC.

I was also able to sell some essence emeralds from the druid which brought in some extra plat. I invested that into a GFG, GEBs, HBC, and Obulus Death Shroud. It would have been nice to grab one of the cheaper regen BPs but I didn’t quite have the plat and I figured having a full set of decent gear would do for now. The main goal is to get back to lvl 46 so I can start participating in raids and group in the higher level zones.

So over a few days I spent a lot of time watching the auctions in EC while killing blues solo. There is a static spawn scarab on the road right beside  the WC zone that I spent quite a bit of time killing. The spawn time is fairly short (6min?) and it was something I could kill while doing chores, work, etc.

To get from 13-14 I moved to WC and focused on wisps and young kodiaks.

I didn’t finish the gear swap until I was almost lvl 14 so I was still using a JCP and shield for most of this range.

Once I hit level 14, it was time to hit Grobb for lvl 14 and lvl 19 spells and to stock up for the long trip and stay at Kurns Tower.

  • Creation + Levels 1-9

I recently started my second toon on the Project 1999 classic EQ server and thought this time around I would document my adventures in leveling.

I had initially rolled a druid but decided that for the long term, the Shaman was going to be better fit and I really only have time for one toon. So after some careful thought, I swapped over whatever gear I could from my druid and started on the road to uber shamanhood.

I decided to roll a Troll mostly because I like the look. They have decent stats and the regen shouldn’t hurt either. The higher stamina of the Ogre and the frontal stun immunity would be pretty sweet but I just can’t bring myself to play one when I don’t really care for the look.

For the first few levels, I stuck with Innothule Swamp killing whatever I could find. Before I retired the druid I camped a Jade Prod and a CGS so those two combined with the WIS gear from the druid gave me a decent starting point for low-level hunting.

I spent a lot of time hunting the frogs at the entrance to Guk and the wanderers in that area. Once I hit level 9 it was time to go buy myself Spirit of Wolf and stock up some supplies to move on.
